Controlling Heat Flow in a Solid by Switching Crystal Structure Dimensionality

A material in which heat flow can be dynamically controlled by changing its thermal conductivity has now been developed by researchers at Tokyo Tech. The thermal conductivity is modulated by reversibly switching between a two-dimensional and a three-dimensional crystal structure in a solid solution of lead selenide and tin selenide, opening doors to potential thermal management applications.
